Collection: Monokel Eyewear
Sustainable Unisex Sunglasses
Monokel Eyewear is a sustainable unisex sunglass brand founded in Stockholm, Sweden in 2014. The main focus of the brand is to make a collection of shades that are not only timeless in their designs but also have a quality that stands out and a price point where it is affordable for everyone.
To get the quality of the shades correct, the guys behind the brand are having a huge focus on materials. Monokel Eyewear only uses premium plant-based acetate from the Italian supplier Mazzucchelli, Teflon on the screws to keep them tight and lenses from German supplier Carl Zeiss Vision.
Each frame from Monokel Eyewear is handcrafted by skilled workers in a process taking well over three months.

More about Monokel Eyewear
The material from Mazzucchelli called acetate is a cellulosic material coming from plants, mostly from tree pulp. It's ideal to make strong durable eyewear – when entering the factory, it comes in a powder form. Several processes making it into a dough, to begin with, when it then gets into the desired thickness of the dough, a color pigment will be added to reach the desired color.
The black frames from Monokel Eyewear are all made by recycled acetate bits, that are collected from the other colored frames in the Monokel Eyewear production. Usually, when making handcrafted acetate frames, more than half of the acetate is normally thrown away. Monokel Eyewear decided to collect all the waste of their production and then adding some black ink to make new shades. Last year the Recycled Black collection was more than half of the production at Monokel Eyewear.
At Heatherfields we really applause the decision to take responsibility for the environment, while being able to protect your eyes and looking like a million.
