Iconic outdoor brand from Seattle

Filson was founded in Seattle in 1897 by Clifton Clifford Filson. He did see an opportunity in all the fortune hunters going to the ”Great Klondyke Gold rush” in Alaska, creating the company  C.C. Filson's Pioneer Alaska Clothing and Blanket Manufacturers.

It was not only a harsh, cold and very rough climate they were working in, it also did take them far into the mountains, with no contact with other people,then their fellow fortune hunters, often for years.This making it very important that the products had a high quality, and could stand the extreme environment created for.

"The goods we quote must not be confounded with the cheap and vastly inferior grade with which the market is over-run. Such goods are not only useless for the purpose for which they are intended, but the person wearing them would be better off without them."

C.C. Filson did from day one outstand themselves by creating products that were both warm and extremely durable – a lot of these in fabrics still being a part of the collections as Mackinaw Wool and Tin Cloth.

However, shortly after creating the company, the gold rush came to an end and C.C. Filson had to change around his business. He started developing clothing for outdoor people in general, and especially lumber jackets, hunters and fishermen quickly became aware of the quality coming from Filson.

This mentality has been a big part of the brand ever since, and today you will find different lines in the collection running from the traditional Mackinaw Wool, till technical shell jackets created for fly fishing – only thing that is for sure, everything is made to last in the best quality available.
